Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule
The official list below shows reserved time periods, not confirmed exams. Check with your instructor if the course will have its final exam within this period.
Before registering, make sure to go over the Goethe exam guidelines and the terms and conditions on each individual exam page. Register for the correct level of the exam.
Locations
The Exam Schedule lists locations where DEP conducts operator certification exams. Please refer to the individual exam pages for additional information on exam topics, exam conditions and conditions, and additional guidelines. If you require special accommodations due to a chronic illness, visual or hearing impairment, contact the exam provider directly and make sure to provide detailed documentation at the time of registration.

In addition the Registrar's Office has a list of exam times for courses in which an exam is required by NYSED regulations. For evening classes final exams are scheduled at the regular class meeting time during the final week of exams.

Registration
Students are advised to check the exam schedule online. It is important to note that the final schedule of exams may change at any time. Therefore, students should consult with their instructors to ensure that they have the correct date and time for their exam. Students should also print the official list to take with them to the exam.
Students must also familiarize themselves with the guidelines and conditions of the exam in addition to the exam schedule. These are accessible on the individual exam page. Students acknowledge they have read and accepted the terms and conditions of registration.
Exam sites make every effort to accommodate those with special needs. The nature and extent of these needs must be noted on the registration and confirmed by a medical attestation. In addition, the exam locations must respect confidentiality and be maintained.
If a student has three examinations scheduled for the same day it is recommended to contact their department or instructor to arrange an alternate exam. It is possible to take three examinations on the same day. However, this can lead to a high level of stress and can affect the quality. Additionally, the professor might not be able to give a makeup exam on another day.
Before taking the exam, students must prepare by studying their syllabus and practice their German skills. The test is a written test that measures your ability to read and write, as well as speak German. The results of the exam are presented on a scale from A1 to C2. Students who pass the exam receive an Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate documents that they have achieved the level of A1 in their language. This level corresponds to the first stage of the six-level scale of competence that is set out in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free of cost. Students must bring a valid government issued ID to the test. Anyone who does not have a valid photo identification will be disqualified.
Fees
You will have to pay a fee for the examination for the opportunity to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This fee is in addition to the course fee.
Practice tests allow you to get familiar with the format, wording, and difficulty of the questions on the test. They help you assess your understanding, find gaps and improve your chances of passing the exam.
Please note that the examination fee isn't refundable. Exam results can only be emailed and not via telephone.
